Uncertainty Updating in the Description of Coupled Heat and Moisture Transport in Heterogeneous Materials

To assess the durability of structures, heat and moisture transport need to be analyzed. To provide a reliable estimation of heat and moisture distribution in a certain structure, one needs to include all available information about the loading conditions and material parameters. Moreover, the information should be accompanied by a corresponding evaluation of its credibility. Here, the Bayesian inference is applied to combine different sources of information, so as to provide a more accurate estimation of heat and moisture fields [1]. The procedure is demonstrated on the probabilistic description of heterogeneous material where the uncertainties consist of a particular value of individual material characteristic and spatial fluctuations. As for the heat and moisture transfer, it is modelled in coupled setting [2]

BAYESIAN INFERENCE OF HETEROGENEOUS VISCOPLASTIC MATERIAL PARAMETERS

Modelling of heterogeneous materials based on randomness of model input parameters involves parameter identification which is focused on solving a stochastic inversion problem. It can be formulated as a search for probabilistic description of model parameters providing the distribution of the model response corresponding to the distribution of the observed dataIn this contribution, a numerical model of kinematic and isotropic hardening for viscoplastic material is calibrated on a basis of experimental data from a cyclic loading test at a high temperature. Five material model parameters are identified in probabilistic setting. The core of the identification method is the Bayesian inference of uncertain statistical moments of a prescribed joint lognormal distribution of the parameters. At first, synthetic experimental data are used to verify the identification procedure, then the real experimental data are processed to calibrate the material model of copper alloy

Managing Market Risks by Utilization of Hedge Accounting

Import 05/08/2014Cílem diplomové práce je popsat vzájemný vztah tržních rizik a zajišťovacího účetnictví jako jednoho z hlavních nástrojů řízení tohoto rizika a tím i finanční stability banky a na konkrétních případech demonstrovat jeho použití tak, aby bylo patrné, jak je možné pomocí zajišťovacího účetnictví tržní riziko řídit a tak zamezit negativnímu dopadu na zisk banky a srovnat rozdílné dopady do výsledku banky s použitím zajišťovacího účetnictví a bez něj. V teoretické části je proveden popis tržních rizik a vymezení zajišťovacího účetnictví jako jednoho z hlavních nástrojů jejich řízení. V praktické části je vytvořena studie pěti různých případů, na kterých je demonstrováno použití zajišťovacího účetnictví v procesu řízení tržních rizik a srovnání hospodářského výsledku s jeho použitím a bez něj. Jako přínos své práce vidím v tom, že jsem v teoretické části popsala rizika, kterým jsou banky vystaveny v důsledku pohybů tržních faktorů na finančních trzích a rovněž různé finanční deriváty, které je možné v bankovní praxi použít jako zajišťovací nástroje eliminující tento možný negativní vliv. Na demonstrativních příkladech jsem pak ukázala, jak je právě zajišťovací účetnictví důležité nejen pro řízení tržního rizika, ale i pro řízení finančních nákladů a výnosů, což bezprostředně souvisí s udržením stability banky.The aim of this thesis is to describe interaction between market risks and hedge accounting as one of mains instruments for managing market risks and financial stability of the bank. Particular examples show how hedging helps to manage market risks and how it impacts profit of a bank. Theoretical part describes market risks and defines hedge accounting as one of main instruments of risk management. Practical part contains five examples demonstrating usage of hedging in market risk management and showing impact on profit of the bank with and without it. Benefits of this thesis: in theoretical part I described risks that banks face as a result of changes in market factors on financial markets and several financial derivatives that can be used in banking practise as tools for eliminating the negative impacts. In the examples I showed how important hedging is not only for market risk management but also for management of financial expenses and income – this relates to the maintenance of the stability of the bank.115 - Katedra managementuvýborn

NON-INVASIVE INVERSE PROBLEM IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

In this contribution we focus on recovery of spatial distribution of material parameters utilizing only non-invasive boundary measurements. Such methods has gained its importance as imaging techniques in medicine, geophysics or archaeology. We apply similar principles for non-stationary heat transfer in civil engineering. In oppose to standard technique which rely on external loading devices, we assume the natural fluctuation of temperature throughout day and night can provide sufficient information to recover the underlying material parameters. The inverse problem was solved by a modified regularised Gauss-Newton iterative scheme and the underlying forward problem is solved with a finite element space-time discretisation. We show a successful reconstruction of material parameters on a synthetic example with real measurements. The virtual experiment also reveals the insensitivity to practical precision of sensor measurements
